Future Trends & Color Strategy Research

A research project that explores lifestyle evolution, color strategies, and market-driven design through systematic trend analysis and monitoring methods.

Summary Box|Key Highlights

Trend research as strategic design intelligence
This project investigates how lifestyle shifts, emotional values, and cultural signals shape future design directions, translating abstract trend data into actionable design and color strategies.

From keywords to market-relevant insights
Through systematic trend monitoring, keyword mapping, and lifestyle observation, the research bridges creative intuition with market logic—connecting societal change, emotional resonance, and economic viability.

Design beyond aesthetics
The project demonstrates how trend forecasting functions as a planning tool, enabling designers to anticipate value shifts, align with user psychology, and support long-term, evidence-based design decisions.

Background & Motivation

Design does not exist in isolation — it is shaped by social change, cultural shifts, and market dynamics.
This project examines how lifestyle trends, color development, and emotional factors influence contemporary design decisions, and how social observations can be translated into strategic design directions.

Design Thinking & Process

Research Scope Following an initial phase of theoretical discourse, the core research focused on:

  • Trend Keyword Analysis

Identifying linguistic markers of social change.

  • Impact Evaluation

Assessing the depth and duration of emerging trends.

  • Lifestyle & Behavioral Observation

Field research on shifting social habits.

  • Strategic Color Development

Mapping palettes to social moods and aesthetic futures.

  • Market-Oriented Interpretation

Bridging the gap between creative vision and commercial viability.

  • Conducted within a Master's framework, where I also served as a Teaching Assistant, facilitating workshops and supporting peer learning.

Methodology

  • Trend Scouting

Real-world observation of emerging lifestyle patterns and visual cues.

  • Trend Monitoring

Tracking longitudinal shifts in consumer preferences and social values.

  • Trend Matrix

A structured framework used to categorize keywords and weigh their strategic impact.

  • Market Analysis

Connecting design choices with economic factors and "the economics of emotion." This systematic approach allowed for the transformation of abstract signals into tangible design intelligence.

Key Insights

  • Cultural Indicators

Trend keywords serve as a mirror to deeper cultural and emotional shifts in society.

  • Emotional Resonance

Color and style development are deeply intertwined with collective social moods.

  • Strategic Foresight

Effective design requires high sensitivity toward market trends and user psychology.

  • Foundation for Planning

Trend research provides the essential evidence base for long-term design roadmaps.

Outcome & Reflection: Redefining Value in Lifestyle Trends

This research transitions from theoretical analysis to a profound understanding of how "value" is socially constructed. Drawing on Peter Doyle’s marketing theories, this project views value not as a fixed attribute, but as a subjective variable shaped by functional, monetary, social, and psychological perspectives.

Key Reflected Insights:

  • The Subjectivity of Value

In the wake of COVID-19, global consumption patterns have shifted. My research observes that as "Brand Loyalty" declines, consumers are increasingly prioritizing "Holistic Value"—a critical re-evaluation of price-performance ratios driven by a need for psychological and functional security.

  • The Digital Shift

As traditional advertising loses its efficacy, social media has become the new "battlefield" for value creation. This project reflects on how every product now holds the potential to gain additional meaning and "symbolic charge" through digital presentation and community interaction.

  • The Reality of Trend Analysis

Analyzing "LIFE STYLE TRENDS" in everyday life is a complex, non-linear process. It requires a balance between data-driven market reports and empathetic observation of human behavior.

Final Thought:

This project demonstrates that trend research is more than aesthetic forecasting; it is the study of how human values adapt to shifting societal landscapes. It has equipped me with a "Design-Marketing" hybrid mindset, allowing me to create designs that resonate with the evolving psychological and economic needs of the modern consumer.
