Story Overview

In an era of mass consumption, paper is widely used and quickly discarded.
Even with recycling systems in place, many materials struggle to re-enter meaningful use.

Moon – Transformable Table rethinks the value of waste paper by turning it into a lightweight, adjustable piece of furniture.
Through material experimentation, honeycomb structures, and simple mechanical adjustments, the project explores how everyday objects can shift from fixed functions to flexible, evolving forms.

Rather than treating waste as an endpoint, Moon presents regeneration as a design opportunity.

Rethinking Resources

Paper is both accessible and precious.
This project questions how discarded materials can be reintroduced into daily life through sustainable design, without relying on complex industrial processes.

By transforming waste paper into functional furniture components, Moon demonstrates how material reuse can be practical, affordable, and structurally reliable.

Material Experiments

Through multiple tests and prototyping stages, waste paper was reprocessed into lightweight yet durable structural elements.

  • Structural Rod Handles

Made from a mixture of leftover rice and paper scraps, using no chemical adhesives.

  • Table Corner Structure

Constructed with recycled paper honeycomb grids combined with plywood for strength.

  • Outer Panels

Laser-cut wooden surfaces bonded for added durability and stability.

These experiments highlight the regeneration potential of everyday waste materials.

Free Adjustment & Unrestricted Use

Moon is built around a simple, modular structure with movable rods.
Users can freely adjust the table’s height and angle, allowing it to adapt to different living situations.

 

Rather than serving a single fixed function, the table responds to changing needs—reflecting a more flexible relationship between people and objects.

This project was developed in 2022, a year symbolized by the color Very Peri, representing transformation and new perspectives.

 

The soft purple and green tones reflect an era of redefining everyday objects and questioning existing frameworks.
Moon embodies this spirit by showing how materials can transcend their original identity and be reimagined through sustainable design.

Outcome & Reflection

Moon demonstrates that sustainable design does not require sacrificing functionality or aesthetics.
By reusing waste paper and combining it with simple structural systems, the project explores how discarded materials can gain new purpose in everyday life.

 

Future iterations could further investigate long-term durability and scalable production methods for regenerated material furniture.
